Lions Have Plenty of Good to Take Into Game Against 49ers

Sunday’s win over the Rams left Lions fans with a wide range of possible emotions. Relief in getting the win, certainly, but that could very easily be combined with apprehension, especially with the team heading for a tough road game against the 49ers.

But there is a different, more optimistic reaction. Outside of a few obvious mistakes, I was pleased with the way the Lions played in their season opener and believe that their strong performance in a couple key areas give reason for hope in week two.

The Lions weren’t supposed to have that much trouble with the St. Louis Rams. Despite being more than a touchdown favorite, it took a last-second touchdown to get the four-point win. Now the Lions are nearly touchdown underdogs heading into their game at San Francisco.

The Week 1 performance might be cause for concern to some. Another lackluster performance against the 49ers could lead to an embarrassment on national television. While that remains a possibility, there was a lot to like about the way the Lions played against the Rams that bodes well for their matchup with the 49ers.
