The Detroit Lions have slowly filled their eight-man practice squad roster since final cuts were made a couple days ago but that process is finally complete. At least for now.
The Lions added fullback Shaun Chapas and defensive tackle Lorenzo Washington this evening to bring their total to eight.
Chapas became the second former Georgia Bulldog and college teammate of Matthew Stafford to join the Lions’ practice squad today. Wide Receiver Kris Durham was added earlier in the day. Chapas was a seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2011 and spent most of last season on their practice squad but did get pulled up to the 53-man roster late in the season. The Cowboys released Chapas last week.
Lorenzo Washington went undrafted out of Alabama in 2010 and has bounced around between the Cowboys, Patriots and Jets.
The Lions have yet to announce a roster move to add free agent cornerback Drayton Florence so it is possible one of the eight men currently on the practice squad roster could be off it soon. Someone will lose their spot on the Lions’ 53-man roster tomorrow. If Jonte Green is that man he could land on the practice squad at the expense of one of the eight men there right now.
The 2012 Detroit Lions practice squad roster initially looks like this:
OG Rodney Austin
FB Shaun Chapas
WR Kris Durham
WR Patrick Edwards
RB Stephfon Green
LB Carmen Messina
DT Lorenzo Washington
CB Ross Weaver
