The Detroit Lions will be without three of their rookies when practice begins later this week. Chris Greenwood and Ronnell Lewis have been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list while Ryan Broyles has been placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Greenwood (abdominal surgery) and Lewis (undisclosed) suffered their injuries as members of the Detroit Lions and are therefore eligible for the PUP list but Broyles is still dealing with the effects of an ACL tear he suffered as a member of the Oklahoma Sooners. Since it happened prior to joining the Lions, he lands on the other list.
All three can be moved to the active roster at any time but players on the PUP list when the regular season begins must sit out the first six games. It doesn’t appear that we need to worry about that happening right now, the Lions are likely just going to take be safe with their young players as they heal.
