One of the most interesting tidbits about the Lions releasing Aaron Berry is that it wasn’t a unilateral decision by the front office to take action. According to Mike Freeman of CBS Sports, a group of veteran players had a say in the matter.
Forgive me if this has already been reported: I’m told Lions brass consulted some veteran players before cutting Aaron Berry…

The fact that the move was made after hearing the opinions of some veteran players increases the importance of the message the move sends. Other young Lions would be wise to take note that Aaron Berry is no longer around simply because the organization wanted him gone – some of his peers apparently did as well.
In a single roster move the Detroit Lions organization sent a clear message and empowered their veteran leaders. That’s good news on a number of levels.
