Detroit Lions Need Louis Delmas to Step Up

With it finally settled that Cliff Avril will not get a long term deal this offseason and will be “stuck” with the one-year deal coming his way as a result of the franchise tender, a forward looking eye has been turned to what the Lions will face next offseason.

One name that has been prominently brought up as a candidate for the franchise tag next offseason is Louis Delmas. I will not dispute that Delmas has the potential to be worthy of such but I’d like to see more before I’m willing to accept that as a prudent move.

Louis Delmas is often mentioned as one of the top young safeties in the league but his career trajectory paints a troubling picture. Is the real Delmas the dynamic play maker that we saw as a rookie or is it the injury prone guy more interested in going for the big hit than just making a solid tackle?
