Detroit Lions Fantasy Breakdown: Titus Young

Titus Young is poised to have a big season in 2012. Last year as a rookie, Young wasn’t able to get the full effect of having a complete rookie offseason with the lockout and minor injuries during training camp. Though he wasn’t able to get a solid training camp under his belt, he had a very good season and was a big impact for the Lions as a rookie. This season you can expect a lot more out of Young in his sophomore year.

In 2011, Young became a good receiver/flex option during the second half of the season. In the last eight games, Young gained 332 of his 607 yards and scored 5 of his 6 touchdowns. A possible seventh touchdown was scored during week 17 against the Green Bay Packers but was called not a catch and could not be reviewed because the Lions were out of challenges. It was obvious to tell that as the season progressed, quarterback Matthew Stafford began to trust Young more and that Young was becoming more comfortable with the offense.

Young has all the opportunity to have a stellar year both on the field and on your fantasy team. Young is equipped with good hands, the skill to get off the line quickly and the ability to stretch the field. Though he will likely be the third wide receiver on the depth chart, he will most likely put up the numbers of a number two receiver. Young should be drafted in late rounds in a standard league format and mid-rounds in keeper leagues. He has the potential to be a good player in PPR leagues and should get a lot of looks with all the attention that will be placed on Calvin Johnson. For those in leagues where special teams count, Young may be looked upon to return kicks and punts, this could definitely enhance his value. There is no doubt that Young will be a solid fantasy player in 2012 and has the potential to be a late round stud.
