Our 2012 Detroit Lions schedule preview continues with the Lions week two opponent, the San Francisco 49ers. The Lions and 49ers will meet on Sunday Night Football for what will surely be one of the most anticipated games of the first month of the season.

I want to thank Niner Noise editor Eric Melendez for taking the time to answer my questions about the Rams.

The Detroit Lions will head West to take on the 49ers in a week two game in primetime

1. What is your initial reaction to the 49ers’ 2012 draft?

My reaction was positive. I have to admit I am more excited about the second-round draft pick RB LaMichael James, than the first-round draft pick WR A.J. Jenkins. I really thought the 49ers would draft a guard with their first-round pick because of the hole on the right side of the offensive line they needed to fill.

2. You can’t bring up the 49ers or Jim Harbaugh in Detroit without mentioning last year’s post-game handshake. Is that the case in the Bay Area? What do San Francisco fans say about it and is the matchup with the Lions a game circled on fans’ calendars because of it?

That is certainly the case in the Bay Area. When the schedule was released and Niner fans saw the Lions will be coming to Candlestick, Handshake Gate was the first thing that came to mind. Of course Niner fans sided with Jim Harbaugh and say Jim Schwartz was to blame for starting the incident. The game is circled, multiple times, in red. Expect lots of booing to rain down on Schwartz and the Lions. The post-game handshake will be more watched than the game.
