Our 2012 Detroit Lions schedule preview continues with the Buffalo Bills. The Lions and Bills will conclude preseason play with a game at Ford Field.

I want to thank Brad Andrews, editor at Just Blog Baby, for taking the time to answer my questions.

1. What is your opinion of the Bills’ 2012 draft class?

BA: Love it. The Bills desperately needed a talent and depth upgrade at some key positions (namely OT, LB, CB, WR) and they got it. First-round pick Stephon Gilmore will likely start at CB right away. Second-round pick Cordy Glenn is a massive talent who will probably start at left tackle. The team loaded up on value in the middle rounds. Bills GM Buddy Nix gets an “A” for this one.

2. Is this a make or break year for both Chan Gailey and Trent Edwards (Ryan Fitzpatrick)?

BA: For Fitzpatrick, no doubt. After a great start in 2011 he really went downhill and ended up leading the league in interceptions. Not good. Now, it certainly wasn’t all his fault. Bills receivers were directly at fault for at least five or six INTs and It turned out Fitzpatrick played the whole second half of the year with broken ribs. But Fitz won’t be given a pass for another year of failure. If he ever wants to cement himself as an NFL starting QB, this is the year. Meanwhile, as long as the season isn’t a disaster, Gailey should stay even if the Bills don’t make the playoffs. Gailey has done a good job after inheriting an absolute dumpster fire of a roster in 2010. The players believe in him and there’s no need to rush to make a change.
