There is obviously a lot the Detroit Lions like about Chris Greenwood – they wouldn’t have drafted him in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft if they didn’t. He brings a rare combination of size and speed but the jump from the Division III level to the NFL will be a hurdle for him to overcome.
I can’t claim to have seen Greenwood play personally (thanks, Calvin), but those that have and have followed his story seem bullish about his prospects. With over 2,000 votes from Division III football fans in a poll at d3football.com, 45% believe Chris Greenwood will make the Detroit Lions roster with another 32% of the opinion that he’ll stick with the team as a member of the practice squad.
Cornerback figures to be one of the most hotly contested position groups in Detroit Lions camp this summer. With a large mix of veterans and young players, no one should feel comfortable of a roster spot. The vets will need to prove their experience is a difference maker over the rookies while the rookies will need to prove that they can step in and perform at a high level.
