The Detroit Lions website announced the signing of former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jarett Dillard.
He has battled injury problems since being drafted in the fifth round in 2009. A broken ankle cut his rookie season short and he did not play a single snap in 2010 after landing on injure reserved due to a foot injury. Dillard had his most productive season in 2011 with 29 receptions for 292 yards and one touchdown in 14 games.
The Jaguars put a priority on upgrading at the wide receiver position and that made Dillard expendable. They released him on May 7.
Dillard faces an uphill battle to crack the Lions roster but the move gives them more depth at the position in training camp.
A corresponding move to make room for Dillard on the 90-man roster has not been announced.
[update: The Lions have released offensive lineman Quinn Barhamto to create a roster spot for Dillard.]
