Let’s just cut right to the chase. In this offseason the Detroit Lions have had 5 players work their ways
into legal trouble.
Most notably, their first-round pick, DT Nick Fairley, has been arrested twice in the past two months; once for possession of marijuana, then again several days ago for a DUI.
Mikel Leshoure has received 2 citations for possession of marijuana.
Johnny Culbreath was also cited for a marijuana-related offense.
On top of the legal issues, Titus Young has found trouble with the team itself. He was asked not to participate in OTA’s last week due to an altercation he allegedly instigated with his fellow teammate Louis Delmas. Calling Detroit’s offseason difficult would be an understatement.
Fairley was participating in practice two days after his DUI arrest. Young has also returned to practice. Although this is encouraging, the Lions are not out of hot water with Fairley. A suspension is likely, and a repeat offense could result in even more harsh penalties. The Lions, who had high hopes for Fairley, should be crossing their fingers that he stays out of trouble. Perhaps it’s time for coach Jim Schwartz to take a personal interest in this clearly troubled player.
