As much as it pains to me to say, we must once again acknowledge the Dallas Cowboys as “America’s Team”.

A recently released poll conducted by ESPN Sports Polls, 8.8% of those polled listed the Dallas Cowboys as the team they root for each week. The Green Bay Packers checked in as the second most popular team with 7.2% of the vote.

Where do the Lions rank among the country’s NFL consciousness?

According to the poll, the Lions are cheered on by 2.2% of NFL fans, tied with the Vikings although ranked one spot behind that group of men that wear purple (we’ll save a discussion on margin of error, rounding and significant digits for another time).

That puts the Lions on the right side of the 50-50 line and they are the last team listed that got at least 2% of the vote.

What does this all mean?

Little to nothing, of course, except that it is May and these sort of things make for something to talk about.

15th is probably far better that the Lions would have ranked a year ago and it is interesting to note that they rank better than the Jets (19th) and Ravens (23rd).
