About an hour remained until the 2012 NFL draft official began and the Minnesota Vikings were already making moves. They agreed to trade the third overall pick to the Cleveland Browns to slide back one spot and pick up fourth, fifth and seventh-round picks.
The move ensures the Browns land Alabama running back Trent Richardson while the Vikings will still end up with USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil.
The Vikings are clearly the fourth-best team in the NFC North but this trade could go a long way towards their rebuilding efforts. The picks in and of themselves don’t figure to bring high-impact players but they do give the Vikings more ammunition for trading up in other parts of the draft to increase the overall talent of their draft class.
