Not long after hearing word that free agent tackle Eric Winston would be signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, DetroitLions.com’s Tim Twentyman posted an article announcing an offensive line signing for the Lions.
Jeff Backus is officially back with the Lions thanks to a new two-year deal reportedly worth $10 million.
This probably takes the Lions out of the running for free agent tackle Marcus McNeill since the Lions no longer have the kind of opportunity he seeks. However, the Lions could still be in the market for an offensive tackle in the draft because the Lions will need to figure out a long term replacement for Backus.
The Backus re-signing makes the second of the day for the Lions who also agreed to a new contract with backup quarterback Shaun Hill. It will be interesting to see if reports start to surface about their progress on negotiations with Stephen Tulloch.
