March "Maddeness": Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford up for Madden '13 Cover

As you may recall, last year EA Sports allowed NFL fans to vote for which player they wanted on the cover of Madden 12 through brackets.  Somewhat surprisingly, Cleveland’s Peyton Hillis won mostly because of the campaigns from Browns fans.  EA Sports is doing the same again this year.  However, there is a change to 2012′s bracket as the tournament has expanded to 64 teams; a play-in-round with two teammates facing off.

I have a feeling the matchup between Detroit’s two will be a close one.  The candidates representing the Detroit Lions are Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson.  Looking at the rest of each of the other duos, it is hard to find one better than that.  Matthew Stafford, in his first complete year, threw for over 5,000 yards and Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in the NFL.  So both are great players to be on the front of the most popular sports game.  Hopefully we can revenge the first round defeat of Ndamukong Suh last year to Aaron Rodgers.

The tough part for Lions fans is deciding between Stafford or Johnson.  That is up for you to decide (I voted for Megatron).  You can vote through SportsNation’s Facebook page.  Perhaps as Lions fans we shouldn’t vote due to the fact that we would be doomed by the Madden Curse.  Just joking.
