We’re down to the final eight in our 2011 SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year tournament! You can see the bracket here.

Who will advance to the final four?

(1 seed) Ndamukong Suh
First Round: bye
Second Round: def Lawrence Jackson
Third Round: def Chris Houston

Ndamukong Suh’s second season doesn’t compare well to his first when looking at statistics on paper but he established himself as a presence opposing teams scheme around. His sack and tackle numbers were noticeably lower in 2011 but, as pointed out on The Lions in Winter, Suh actually had a sack, pressure or hit on the quarterback more frequently in 2011 than he did as a rookie in 2010. Ndamukong Suh’s workload was partially decreased by design and partially as a result of his two game suspension but he made his presence known, even if it didn’t show up on the stat sheet.

(2 seed) Kyle Vanden Bosch
First Roud: bye
Second Round: def Nick Fairley
Third Round: def DeAndre Levy

The Detroit Lions have undergone a change on the field and in attitude since Jim Schwartz took over and a big part of that transition happened when the team signed Kyle Vanden Bosch as a free agent two years ago. His first season with the team was cut short by a neck injury but he bounced back to record 8 sacks in 2011, his highest sack total in four years and the third highest total of his 10 seasons. KVB also forced four fumbles and was credited with 35 tackles.

Who should advance to the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament Final Four?

  • Ndamukong Suh (61%, 11 Votes)
  • Kyle Vanden Bosch (39%, 7 Votes)

Total Voters: 18
