SLR Detroit Lions Player Of The Year Tournament Third Round: Ndamukong Suh vs. Chris Houston

Today is day five of the 2011 SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year tournament‘s third round! Take a look at the bracket here.

Who will be the fifth player to make our Elite Eight? Polls remain open until midnight on the west coast.

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

(1 seed) Ndamukong Suh
First Round: bye
Second Round: def Lawrence Jackson

Ndamukong Suh’s second season doesn’t compare well to his first when looking at statistics on paper but he established himself as a presence opposing teams scheme around. His sack and tackle numbers were noticeably lower in 2011 but, as pointed out on The Lions in Winter, Suh actually had a sack, pressure or hit on the quarterback more frequently in 2011 than he did as a rookie in 2010. Ndamukong Suh’s workload was partially decreased by design and partially as a result of his two game suspension but he made his presence known, even if it didn’t show up on the stat sheet.

(4 seed) Chris Houston
First Round: def Erik Coleman
Second Round: def Amari Spievey

Not only was Chris Houston the team leader in interceptions with five, he was one of just four players in the NFL to return a pair of interceptions for touchdowns. The first was a 56-yarder from Tony Romo that helped bring the Lions back against the Cowboys while the other was a 100-yard return off Tim Tebow in Denver.

Who should advance to the fourth round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?

  • Ndamukong Suh (74%, 14 Votes)
  • Chris Houston (26%, 5 Votes)

Total Voters: 19
