The 2011 NFL season may have just concluded but NFL.com fantasy football writer Michael Fabiano is already looking ahead at the 2012 season. He published a fantasy mock draft on Monday afternoon and two Detroit Lions are listed as first round picks for the hypothetical standard NFL.com league.
Calvin Johnson is listed as the first wide receiver off the board at number eight overall. Fabiano has this to say:
In his first full season with Matthew Stafford under center, Megatron transformed into an even bigger statistical monster than he was in the past. In fact, he recorded career bests in receptions, yards, touchdowns and yards per catch. That’s an impressive feat.
Matthew Stafford is the very next player off the board at number nine overall despite being the fourth quarterback drafted in the mock. Aaron Rodgers is the first selected at number four overall followed by Drew Brees (fifth pick) and Tom Brady (sixth pick). Fabiano explains:
Stafford stayed out of the trainer’s room and thrived for the Lions and fantasy owners alike, throwing for 5,038 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2011. As long as he remains free of those worrisome injuries, there’s no reason Stafford won’t continue to roar in 2012.
No other Detroit Lions are selected in the 50 picks mocked.
