SLR Detroit Lions Player Of The Year Tournament Second Round: Jeff Backus vs. Stephen Peterman

Yesterday’s first round “win” by Jahvid Best completed the first round of the 2011 SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year tournament. Just like in the second round of the NCAA basketball tournament, the matchups will get better and better as we work our way through the bracket. Here is a look at the bracket.

Backus was one of eight players to receive a first round bye and we’ll kick the second round off with his first matchup of the tournament. Just like last round, each poll will stay open until the clock strikes midnight on the west coast.

(2 seed) Jeff Backus vs. (10 seed) Stephen Peterman

Jeff Backus has been a mainstay at left tackle for the Detroit Lions. It says a lot about him that he’s been able to be counted on with such regularity but that also means he’s taken more than his fair share of criticism for the Lions’ problems over the years. He has been known to have problems with some of the game’s top pass rushers but let’s be honest, the game’s top pass rushers are such because they can beat anybody.

Stephen Peterman advanced to the second round by upsetting the seventh seeded Gosder Cherilus. He’s received criticism as well but apparently the fans appreciated his efforts over that of Cherilus and sent him through to the round number two.

Who should advance to the third round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?

  • Stephen Peterman (56%, 35 Votes)
  • Jeff Backus (44%, 28 Votes)

Total Voters: 63
