SideLion Report has great readers so it makes sense that you should have a say in helping us name the SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year. The players have been seeded and placed into a tournament bracket with each matchup determined by a reader vote.
To ensure that everyone has a chance to vote, polls will remain open until midnight on the west coast. At that time, a winner will be declared and the tournament will continue with another matchup the following day.
We’re finishing off the first round on the offensive side of the bracket today after completing the defensive side yestrday. Who will move on to round two?
Jahvid Best’s season was both drawn out and way too short. He never returned after sustaining a concussion in week six against the San Francisco 49ers. Little information was coming out of the Lions organization regarding his progress and there was thought that perhaps he would return later in the year. The team officially ended his season after Thanksgiving. Best ran the ball 84 times for 390 yards and two touchdowns, including an electrifying 88-yard touchdown run on Monday Night Football. He added 27 catches for 287 yards and one more touchdown.
Maurice Morris has generally been under-appreciated in his time in Detroit. He played well when needed late in the 2010 season and played in all 16 games including 5 starts for the Lions in 2011. He finished this past season with 316 yards on 80 carries and one touchdown and 26 catches for 230 yards and another score.
Who should advance to the second round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?
