SideLion Report has great readers so it makes sense that you should have a say in helping us name the SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year. The players have been seeded and placed into a tournament bracket with each matchup determined by a reader vote.
To ensure that everyone has a chance to vote, polls will remain open until midnight on the west coast. At that time, a winner will be declared and the tournament will continue with another matchup the following day.
We’re hopping back to the defensive side of the bracket today. Who will move on to round two?
Martin Mayhew has repeatedly shown an ability to acquire useful pieces from teams that misuse certain players. That is certainly the case with Lawrence Jackson. He has 10.5 sacks in 22 games with the Lions (including 4.5 in 2011) after recording 6.5 in 32 games with the Seahawks. A thigh injury kept LoJack out of five games this season but his presence was certainly felt when he was on the field. Having starting-level defensive end behind Kyle Vanden Bosch and Cliff Avril is a luxury not to be taken for granted.
With the Lions’ propensity to vary their looks up front, a player like Andre Fluellen brings a lot of value to the depth chart. He has the versatility to play everywhere along the defensive line although he spends most of his playing time at defensive tackle. Fluellen was credited with 11 tackles and the first forced fumble of his career in 2011.
Who should advance to the second round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?
