SLR Detroit Lions Player Of The Year Tournament First Round: Dominic Raiola vs. Corey Hilliard

SideLion Report has great readers so it makes sense that you should have a say in helping us name the SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year. The players have been seeded and placed into a tournament bracket with each matchup determined by a reader vote.

To ensure that everyone has a chance to vote, polls will remain open until midnight on the west coast. At that time, a winner will be declared and the tournament will continue with another matchup the following day.

We’re staying on the offensive side of the bracket today. Who will move on to round two?

(6 seed) Dominic Raiola vs. (11 seed) Corey Hilliard

Dominic Raiola might take a lot of heat for being undersized as one of the smaller centers in the league but there isn’t anything undersized about his heart. He’s been a consistent leader in the locker room and was voted offensive line MVP for the 2011 season for his role as the unit’s “quarterback”.

Corey Hilliard didn’t see much action thanks to the Lions’ health along the offensive line but the team would have been confident in going to him had they needed to. Jim Schwartz didn’t hesitate to give Hilliard the start in week two to teach a lesson to Gosder Cherilus who had committed a boneheaded personal foul penalty late in week one.

Who should advance to the second round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?

  • Dominic Raiola (74%, 14 Votes)
  • Corey Hilliard (26%, 5 Votes)

Total Voters: 19
