SLR Detroit Lions Player of the Year Tournament First Round: Alphonso Smith vs. Bobby Carpenter

SideLion Report has great readers so it makes sense that you should have a say in helping us name the SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year. The players have been seeded and placed into a tournament bracket with each matchup determined by a reader vote.

To ensure that everyone has a chance to vote, polls will remain open until midnight on the west coast. At that time, a winner will be declared and the tournament will continue with another matchup the following day.

The winner of today’s matchup earns a meeting with top-seeded Cliff Avril in the second round.

(8 seed) Alphonso Smith vs. (9 seed) Bobby Carpenter

A foot injury cost Alphonso Smith the ability to prepare for the upcoming season. The additions of Justin Durant and Stephen Tulloch meant Bobby Carpenter had to wait a little longer than he probably thought he would have to before re-signing with the Lions. A deal was finally worked out and he joined his team in camp shortly after it began. He appeared in nine games total but it was his showing in Dallas that was most important to the Lions this year:

Who should advance to the second round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?

  • Bobby Carpenter (71%, 25 Votes)
  • Alphonso Smith (29%, 10 Votes)

Total Voters: 35
