SLR Detroit Lions Player of the Year Tournament First Round: Rashied Davis vs. Maurice Stovall

SideLion Report has great readers so it makes sense that you should have a say in helping us name the SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year. The players have been seeded and placed into a tournament bracket with each matchup determined by a reader vote.

To ensure that everyone has a chance to vote, polls will remain open until midnight on the west coast. At that time, a winner will be declared and the tournament will continue with another matchup the following day.

The winner of today’s matchup gets a meeting with Matthew Stafford in the second round.

(8 seed) Rashied Davis vs. (9 seed) Maurice Stovall

The Lions targeted Rashied Davis as a free agent because of his work ethic and versatility. That was evident this season as Davis made appearances on special teams, offense and defense when injuries were ravaging the Lions secondary. Davis totaled four catches for 63 yards as a wide receiver and was one of the team’s top special teams performers.

Maurice Stovall was on the outside looking in when it came to a roster spot at the open of training camp. As preseason play wore on, it became obvious that a roster spot was better used on Stovall than Derrick Williams. Stovall showed good hands as a receiver and played well on special teams and Williams was cut. He caught one regular season pass for eight yards and was a special teams contributor while playing in 15 regular season games.

Who should advance to the second round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?

  • Rashied Davis (74%, 23 Votes)
  • Maurice Stovall (26%, 8 Votes)

Total Voters: 31
