SideLion Report has great readers so it makes sense that you should have a say in helping us name the SideLion Report Detroit Lions player of the year. The players have been seeded and placed into a tournament bracket with each matchup determined by a reader vote.
To ensure that everyone has a chance to vote, polls will remain open until midnight on the west coast. At that time, a winner will be declared and the tournament will continue with another matchup the following day.
The top four seeds in each region are on to the second round and fifth seeded Kevin Smith joined them yesterday. Who will move on in today’s matchup?.
The Detroit Lions chose not to pursue the big name free agent cornerbacks like Nnamdi Asomugha and Johnathan Joseph last offseason in favor of moves that weren’t top headline material. One of those moves was signing Eric Wright as a free agent. He had fallen out of favor in Cleveland but came to Detroit and matched his career high in interceptions with four and set a new career high for passes defended and tackles, only Stephen Tulloch and DeAndre Levy had more tackles for the Lions this season.
Isaiah Ekejiuba has been an important member of the Lions special teams but his season was cut short due to injury after just three games. Ekejiuba’s size and athleticism were an asset in kick and punt coverage but he recorded just one tackle in his limited action this year.
Who should advance to the second round of the 2011 SideLion Report Player of the Year Tournament?
