The Detroit Lions fell behind 17-0 in the second quarter and still trailed by 17 at the half despite eventually scoring a touchdown on a two-yard run by Kevin Smith. The Lions were much stronger in the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 10-0 to cut the deficit to 24-17, but couldn’t complete the comeback thanks in large part to costly penalties (11 penalties for 107 yards compared to 3 for 30 by the Saints). Both offenses flourished on national television for a combined total of 904 yards in the 31-17 win for the Saints.

    Detroit, you did a fine job, especially in the first half. Stafford looked good, and Calvin Johnson is a star. We like that you went for it and made it a good game well worth watching.
