SLR Game Balls: Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson Keep Detroit Lions Close

The Detroit Lions dropped a frustrating game in Green Bay but two players, both on the offensive side of the ball, shined bright enough to deserve special recognition. Can you guess the recipients of this week’s SLR game balls”

Without further ado:

Matthew Stafford: Not a Pro Bowler, right? Matthew Stafford threw for 520 yards and five touchdowns in leading an offense that just wasn’t quite able to keep up with what the Lions defense was giving up all day. Even with two interceptions, Stafford finished with a quarterback rating over 100. There is no way the Lions have any chance in this game with any of the quarterbacks the Lions have used in the recent past. Stafford crossed the 5,000 passing yard mark for the season, joining Dan Marino, Drew Brees and Tom Brady as the only players to do so.

Calvin Johnson: Stafford’s big game came with some help from his favorite target. Calvin Johnson caught eleven passes for 244 yards and a touchdown, breaking his career best for receiving yards set just a couple weeks ago in Oakland.

Maybe an honorable mention to Titus Young who caught 2 TD’s and made a great play to keep his feet in bounds on a third only to see it waved off on a bad call.
