SLR Game Balls: Honoring Two Detroit Lions in Win Over Chargers

It takes a team full of good performances to put on a show like the lions did today but there are two players that stuck out to me. One is on offense (gee, can you guess who?) and one on defense.

Matthew Stafford
Are there any more questions about whether or not the Lions have their franchise quarterback? There shouldn’t have been and there certainly shouldn’t be anymore. In what amounted to a playoff-type atmosphere Stafford had one of his best games of the season. It started with a bomb to Calvin Johnson on the game’s first play and didn’t quit until the Lions had officially secured their first playoff berth since 1999. The final stats are impressive, 29 of 36 for 373 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers.

Justin Durant
The Lions defense was very good today, particularly in the first half and one of the guys that kept showing up was Justin Durant. It’s not surprising to see that he led the team in tackles with 11 (8 solo). Durant was a sure-tackler throughout the game and won the one-on-one matchups in the flat to prevent big plays by the Chargers offense.
