There were two Detroit Lions that deserve special recognition for playing a great game today and showing up big when the team needed them most.
One on offense and one on defense…
Calvin Johnson: He’s one of the biggest weapons in the league today and he showed why today. His first half touchdown got the Lions on the board after the offense was struggling early. It didn’t take many moves, just a lot of speed and Stafford hit him perfectly in stride for the 51-yard score. CJ was a lot more than just a deep threat today, however. Stafford found him throughout the game for big catches, nine for 214 yards in total. When the game was on the line it was a deep pass to Calvin to put the team in position for the 6-yard strike to win the game.
Cliff Avril: It is likely that Cliff Avril ends up as a Pro Bowl snub but anyone that saw today’s game knows how deserving he is. Avril’s box score shows two sacks on the day, a productive outing in its own right but it was the manner the second came that proved invaluable. Avril sacked Carson Palmer as the Raiders were trying to get into field goal range to win the game and forced the Raiders to use their last time out.
