Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick to Follow Detroit Lions to Oakland

Did you enjoy Thom Brennaman’s diatribes during the Lions-Vikings game last week? If so, I have some good news. He’ll be in Oakland to broadcast the game between the Lions and Raiders on Sunday.

Brennaman spent most of the broadcast searching for an opportunity to interject the talking points he had obviously prepared ahead of time. Yes, the Lions have done a lot to hurt their reputation but rather than letting the game against the Vikings play out to confirm or disprove that reputation, Brennaman was quick with a “FINALLY!” exclamation when Stephen Tulloch was called for a personal foul when he hit Christian Ponder during an interception return.

Brian Billick has been fair to the Lions in the post-Millen years, hopefully he can keep Brennaman from getting too giddy every time a flag is thrown against the Lions on Sunday.

I must say that this is one of the strangest looking coverage maps I have seen. Games are generally covered based on regional interest such that the colored areas on the506.com‘s maps each cover one continuous area. That’s not the case with the Lions this game. It will be seen on FOX stations in Michigan/Toledo and a large portion of California and Nevada, as would be expected. However, the game will also be seen in a variety of other metropolitan areas outside of the region without coverage areas connecting them in between. Lions fans residing in Buffalo, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Nashville, and St. Louis will also receive the game over broadcast television.

No matter where you are, we invite you to join us during the game for a live blog. This is your chance to interact during the game to offer your own thoughts and opinions on what is going on. Use the box below to set up an email reminder or bookmark this link.

Reason for the weird map is that the Lions game is the only 4 p.m. game on Fox, but the national doubleheader is on CBS this week, so all of the markets that get the 1 p.m. Fox game also get the 4 p.m. Fox game as well
