I want to take a brief break from the Detroit Lions content to remind everyone that we’re in the midst of ESPN’s fifth annual Jimmy V week. ESPN has earned the reputation of beating a lot of things down our throats but the call for funding cancer research isn’t one of those things that we should grow tired of hearing.
In his 1993 speach at the ESPY’s, Jim Valvano suggested that everyone should laugh, think and cry every day. Watch the entirety of his speech below and you might just accomplish all three in a matter of about 10 minutes. Then, if you’re inclined, consider supporting cancer research through a donation to the V Foundation.
The language around here stays pretty mild but let me add just a bit of color; cancer sucks and deserves to have its ass kicked.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $115 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all new direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board.
