Detroit Lions to Place Jahvid Best on Injured Reserve

Any hopes of Jahvid Best returning to the Lions lineup this season have been dashed. He will not play again this year due to a concussion and will be placed on injured reserve according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com:

Because of the holiday weekend, Best’s transition the injured reserve list isn’t expected to become official until next week. The Lions have not announced a subsequent roster move.

This move now means that the Lions have lost their top two running backs to injury. Mikel Leshoure was lost during training camp to an achilles tendon injury. The health status of Kevin Smith becomes all the more important for the Lions to secure their first playoff berth since 1999.
