It’s bad news for Chicago Bears fans but it could be just the break (literally and figuratively) Lions fans needed. Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has a broken thumb on his throwing hand and there is a chance it could be a season ending injury according to Chicago Sun-Times columnist Sean Jensen:
Bears QB Jay Cutler did break thumb in his throwing hand. And while there will be more tests, there is a fear that it could end his season
ESPN Chicago is tweeting in more certain terms:
Here is latest on Cutler: We hear surgery upcoming on broken right thumb, expected to be lost for at least rest of regular season. JD
The Bears have won five consecutive games and are tied with the Lions at 7-3. While both teams would make the playoffs as wild cards if the season ended today, the Bears are just one team the Lions will be jockeying with for position as the season goes on. A significant injury to Cutler would figure to make the Lions path to the playoffs just a little bit easier.
