This is the spot where I recognize a few Detroit Lions each week for their contributions whether it be in a losing or winning situation. At least, that is what I have done until this week.
Sometimes the truth hurts and that is certainly the case this week when the Lions entered Soldier Field for an important showdown and simply didn’t show up. Their most important players set a horrific tone early with fumbles lost by Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson and a pair of personal foul penalties on Cliff Avril. The Lions outgained the Bears in the first quarter yet it was the Bears that had established a firm grasp on the game.
The Bears scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams. In fact, the Bears scored more on Matthew Stafford passes than the Lions did.
Where there some good moments in the game? I suppose, but put into the context of the entire game there was very little of consequence any Lions fan should point to as a positive. Here is the most positive take-away a fan can be left with – it only counts as one loss.
