Chicago is inexorably and emotionally attached to the Bears. But if you could trade them for the Detroit Lions today, would you do it?
One of the reasons for all the optimism in Detroit heading into this season was the arrival of rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley. As it turned out, the optimism was justified — the Lions are 6-2 — but Fairley has hardly seen the field.
Since Lovie Smith stepped in as Bears head coach, the Bears have lost both Detroit Lions games twice (2004, 2007). And there is a pattern, one that doesn’t apply to years in which the Bears have lost twice to Green Bay or Minnesota, one that stretches all the way back through Bears-Lions history.
