Ndamukong Suh wanted to use part of the bye week to speak with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as the Lions, and Suh specifically, have battled with being labeled as dirty players. That meeting took place today and Suh released the following through his facebook account:
I am very appreciative of the opportunity to sit and speak with the Commissioner and his staff to clarify a few questions about my play, and the game in general. I have gained a better understanding how I need to play the game to help my team win.
I look forward to the rest of the season and the doing everything we can to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Detroit.
Will we see a difference in the way Suh plays or the way he is officiated? Just another reason to watch the second half of the Lions season!
Roger Goodell took to his twitter account to offer a few words following the meeting:
We appreciate that
@Ndamukong_Suh, Coach Schwartz, and team president Tom Lewand took the time to meet with us today. (cont)
Ndamukong plays the game with great skill and passion and is a major reason for the Lions’ success this year. (cont)
We reviewed video showing that he has clearly made the adjustments to play consistently w/in the rules…
… so that he can continue to help the team. We commend Ndamukong’s leadership in taking the initiative to schedule today’s meeting.
The fact that these tweets were sent out is a strong indication of how seriously the commissioner took today’s meeting. This is the twitter account’s first activity since the passing of Al Davis. Tweets prior to that were regarding meeting local leaders and the Indianpolis Super Bowl Host committee and the start of the 2011 season.
