SLR Game Balls for a Detroit Lions Monday Night Victory

The Detroit Lions just put on a complete team performance on their way to a 5-0 record. That means handing out SideLion Report game balls is a tough task but a task I take on nonetheless.

Here goes:

Jahvid Best – The Lions drafted Jahvid Best for his explosive big play potential and that was on display in a big way tonight. His 88-yard touchdown run was the second longest in franchise history and put the Lions up by two scores. Best was also able to find just enough running room to allow the Lions to run down the clock inside the two minute warning in the fourth quarter. He hadn’t had a 100-yard rushing game in his short career but broke through that mark tonight with 163 yards on just 12 carries.

Detroit Lions Fans – This game was what most fans were looking forwards to when the schedule was released and the team rewarded the fans with a good performance in front of a national audience. This isn’t just about a warm-fuzzy for the fans either; those in attendance had a direct impact on the outcome. Ford Field was louder than it has ever been for a Lions game and that led to nine false start penalties by the Bears, including three on their opening drive alone. Well done, Detroit, team and fans alike.

We struggled again to run the ball in the first half, but the O-line was awesome in the second half. Big props to them.

Yeah…..good calls. Ya left one out, though. One that should have been, and will be given out more as the season goes on. The coaching staff. Once again half-time adjustments make the difference in a big win. Big ups.

@quarter2midnite I gave Schwartz a game ball in week one because he had the team ready to play a big season opening road game, that wouldn’t have happened in the recent past. I’m sure it will come up again.
