Detroit Lions Game Balls: Earned by Young and Old

It takes a full team effort to put together a performance like the Lions did today but here are three players that I think need some individual recognition:

Jason Hanson: Today’s start gave Jason Hanson the NFL record for most games started with one team in a career while his first quarter extra point made him just the seventh player to record 1,900 points in his career. Congratulations to Jason Hanson on a fine career, one that isn’t over considering he nailed a 51-yard field goal today.

Titus Young: Consider this a welcome to the offense game ball. Titus Young dealt with injuries throughout training camp to the point that it was hard to know exactly how much he would contribute this year. He’ll contribute plenty if his week two performance is any indication. Titus Young finished the game with five catches for 89 yards including two deep down the field.

Justin Durant: The signing of Stephen Tulloch made more headlines but no one that watched the game today will discount the importance of adding Justin Durant to the fold. Durant led the team in tackles with eight and routinely brought down Chief ball carriers when he got his hands on them. There is a lot more sure tackling on the Lions defense these days and Durant is a big part of that.
