Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson may get all the headlines, but Week 1 again proved that there’s more to these Detroit Lions than a little skill-position excellence.
In subsequent drafts, the Lions built their defensive front with tackles Ndamukong Suh in 2010 and Nick Fairley, who slipped to 13th in the 2011 draft because of knee concerns. The Chiefs took safety Eric Berry in 2010 and reached for troubled wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin this year.

Lions 31, Chiefs 17
