NFC North Makes Its Case as the NFL’s Toughest Division

When the topic of the NFL’s toughest divisions is debated it doesn’t take long for the NFC South to come up. It is for good reason; the Saints and Falcons were two of the league’s best a year ago and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won ten games despite falling short of the playoffs.

The NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi surprised some when he named the NFC North as the best division in an NFL.com article earlier this month. Well, the NFC North may only be through one week of play but it has been a pretty convincing week. The current standings:

Team Record Home Road
Bears 1-0 1-0 0-0
Lions 1-0 0-0 1-0
Packers 1-0 1-0 0-0
Vikings 0-1 0-0 0-1

The Vikings came up short against the San Diego Chargers but the top three teams in the NFC North got the better of the best three teams in the NFC South. The Packers outscored the Saints, the Bears beat down the Falcons and the Lions the took care of the Bucs.

To be the best, one must beat the best. The NFC North may have done that today.
