Zack Follett suffered a serious neck injury that ended his 2010 season prematurely but he had been given clearance to return to football prior to training camp. It appears that his days with the Lions are over and perhaps so too is his football career. Follett sent out the following tweet this evening:
Respect to Schwartz Mayhew Lewand didnt want to risk a life threatening injury after seeing my pain, Someone had to make the tough decision!
The first tweet caused a flurry of speculation. Nearly 45 minutes later, Follett sent out a couple more tweets that made it crystal clear that he was no longer part of the Detroit Lions. First:
Much as I fought to give it a go just wasnt in His plan. No longer a Lion. God has me filled with plenty of Joy #Godbetheglory Thanks!
neck was on fire and couldn’t compete in hitting drills.. So a decision had to be made
His contributions on special teams will be missed as will his personality. Blessings for the future, Zack!
