He was the team’s first pick selected and the last pick to sign. Nick Fairley has joined the other four members of the Detroit draft class of 2011 by reaching an agreement on his rookie contract.
Detroit Free Press Lions beat writer broke the news on twitter:
Nick Fairley has agreed to a four-year deal, fully guaranteed. Agent Brian Overstreet: “Everybody is excited to get him in on time.”
The four year deal is reportedly worth $10 million with a signing bonus of $5.7 million.
One new aspect to this deal no seen in rookie deals in previous years is that this contract is fully guaranteed. A number of first round picks have received such deals this year as a trade-off for the lower salaries they will receive under the new CBA. Lower dollar totals but full guarantees makes for a win-win situation.
Fairly is understandably excited, he tweeted the following:
Thank GOD, Family and Fans! I’m officially a Lion! Time to get to work!
The Lions have know signed their entire draft class ahead of the first workout to be held tomorrow.
