The details still are being ironed out, but it appears the end of the NFL lockout is imminent and the 2011 season will be saved.

Once the deal is done, there is going to be a mad rush to get players.

Thirty-two teams will frantically fill their rosters for training camp by signing both drafted and undrafted rookies and by pursuing free agents they targeted or ones cut by teams to get under the salary cap.

For two or so weeks, it is going to be a stretch unlike any we have seen in sports.

Sporting News presents the following information regarding the Detroit Lions, and as much of the team’s free agency news as we can track. Keep checking back for up-to-date information, including recent signings and contract deals.

Q: “1984 was an interesting year. You won the national championship. Later you’re coaching in the East-West game. The Detroit Lions offer you their head coaching job. Why didn’t you take it?”

Are there any details of the CBA, yet? I read your explanation of the Rookie salaries. That should speed up the signing process, no hold outs, right? What constitutes an UFA and a RFA? Are the Lions in jeopardy of losing anyone to free agency? If you’ve addressed all of this in previous reports I apologize, but I don’t know the details.

@kiddet I get the impression that long rookie holdouts are going to be a thing of the past, we’ll have to see how it all works in reality though.

Players will be eligible for UFA if they have an expired contract and four years of service. There was some uncertainty whether or not Chris Houston would be unrestricted a couple months ago but he will be when free agency opens. Cliff Avril will be a RFA because he does not have four years of service.

Hope that helps as a quick answer to some of your questions!
