Fans aren’t the only group of people starting to get vocal about bringing the NFL lockout to an end, a group of star quarterbacks got in on the chatter with a statement released to the Associated Press this morning.
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees said the following:
We believe the overall proposal made by the players is fair for both sides and it is time to get this deal done. This is the time of year we as players turn our attention to the game on the field. We hope the owners feel the same way.
This week is particularly crucial in the negotiating process as dates widely reported as deadlines are rapidly approaching. The sense of urgency on both sides is becoming evident. Albert Breer put it this way on twitter:
Bottom line: Everyone — the QBs in that statement, the league, the NFLPA — seems to be in deal-making mode. It’s a critical time.
The best case scenario might be that the sides continue negotiating to get the most they can until the end of the week then agree to the deal that stands at that time. The time for hard-line stances has passed as extending the lockout would be an exercise in diminishing returns. Come on guys, let’s get back to the football!
