I surfed over to NFL.com earlier today and noticed a picture of Louis Delmas on the frontpage as one of five safeties featured for a new article by NFL.com senior analyst Pat Kirwin in which he ranks the top 30 safeties.
As with his other rankings, Kirwin lumps players into groups of five rather than a straight one to 30 list. Players are listed alphabetically within a group. It didn’t take long to locate Delmas in the rankings and that had more to do with his place in it than the fact his last name starts with a letter near the front of the alphabet. Louis Delmas lands in Pat Kirwan’s “Group A” with the following comment:
An emerging free safety who too many coaches pointed to when I asked for some new names at the position.
I find it interesting that Kirwin admits Delmas is “emerging” yet doesn’t hesitate to place him in his top group along with Nick Collins, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed and Earl Thomas. NFL Spin Zone‘s Josh Sanchez contacted me recently to submit names for FanSided’s own version of the NFL’s top 100 players list (coming soon) and Delmas is one that I mentioned as someone who could enter the conversation if he puts together a good season in 2011. Kirwin seems to put him in the conversation immediately.
