Detroit Lions Land Two in Pat Kirwin’s List of Top 35 Quarterbacks

The NFL Network is in the middle of unveiling their list of the top 100 players in the NFL today. In that spirit, Pat Kirwin has released his rankings of the top 35 quarterbacks currently in the league. Rather than assembling a straight one through 35 list, Kirwin has assembled the quarterbacks into groups of five and let’s the alphabet do the ordering within each group since there is little to be gained from arguing about player rankings within his subsets.

Not surprisingly, Kirwin’s group A includes Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers. So where does Matthew Stafford rank?

Kirwin places Stafford in group E, on par with players like David Garrard, Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Henne and Donovan McNabb. This puts Stafford in the 21-25 ranking range. Here is Kirwin’s comment:

Matthew Stafford, Lions: He has to stay healthy to move up a few groups. He looks like he’s stronger and healthy, which means he could ascend next season.

Stafford wasn’t the only Lions quarterback to make the cut. Group G is made up the last five names in the ranking and includes Shaun Hill.

Shaun Hill, Lions: Another backup who played better than some starters around the league a year ago. He led the Lions to two late wins.
