TV Commercials: A Sign the Detroit Lions are Relevant!

As the Lions rise from relevant to contender we can expect to see more of our favorite gridiron heroes in ads like the two that have recently appeared on television:

Lions players repping Chrysler and Acura may seem odd considering the team is owned by the Ford family I don’t see anything wrong with Ndamukong Suh and Calvin Johnson appearing in ads for other automakers, especially considering the fact that I can’t think of a recent Ford commercial that featured an athlete.

Fans hear a lot about need and value when NFL draft picks are discussed. This ignores one other important factor: Time.

Nick Fairley was taken for value, Titus Young was taken for need and Mikel Leshoure was a combination of the two. What they all have in common is an ability to contribute right away.

Friend of the blog Matt Schuler was able to squeeze some draft strategy out of coach Jim Schwartz with a tweet earlier today.

Mel, and a lot of people even I haven’t heard of, love the lions draft

Wow, that was some RIDE; the ride being the first two rounds of the NFL Draft last week.

I just can’t get enough of the rave reviews that we’re getting from all angles. I think I’m going to wallpaper my man cave with them. Mel Kiper was quoted ” Detroit hit home runs all over in terms of value.” “Nick Fairley at 13 is perhaps the steal of the draft.” On TV, he’s quoted as saying that the Lions got the best value of ANY freakin’ pick in the entire draft with Mikel Leshoure. C’mon Mel, which pick IS the envy of the NFL?? USA,USA,USA!
