NFC North Draft Review

Chicago Bears

The Bears will improve their offensive line that struggled last year with the pick of Carimi.  Carimi should be able to start right away at right tackle for Mike Martz and the Bear offense.  Stephen Paea surprised a lot of people at the combine with his strength as he broke the record at bench press.  He also has a chance to start at DT this year for Chicago.

1st: Gabe Carimi (OT – Wisconsin)
2nd: Stephen Paea (DT – Oregon State)
3rd: Christopher Conte (S – California)
5th: Nathan Enderle (QB – Idaho)
6th: J.T. Thomas (OLB – West Virginia)

Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota’s biggest need was at quarterback and they filled it with Christian Ponder.  Some think that at the 12th pick, it was a little too high for Ponder but Newton, Locker, and Gabbert were already gone.  Kyle Rudolph was the first TE selected in this year’s draft and will help out the Viking offense.  Christian Ballard’s stock fell a little after a failed drug test at the combine but has the possibility to make an impact right away on the line.

1st: Christian Ponder (QB – Florida State)
2nd: Kyle Rudolph (TE – Notre Dame)
4th: Christian Ballard (DE – Iowa)
5th: Brandon Burton (CB – Utah)
6th: DeMarcus Love (OT – Arkansas)
6th: Mistral Raymond (S – South Florida)
6th: Brandon Fusco (C – Slippery Rock)
6th: Ross Homan (OLB – Ohio State)
7th: D’Aundre Reed (DE – Arizona)
7th: Stephen Burton (WR – Texas A&M)

Green Bay Packers

When you win the Super Bowl, you get the 32nd pick and in the first round, the Pack selected Derek Sherrod, who will probably serve as Chad Clifton’s successor. The Packers then selected versatile WR Randall Cobb who was a high-school quarterback. Cobb is extremely quick and can burst up the field. He can also bring a “Wildcat” or “WildCobb” option to the Packer offense.

1st: Derek Sherrod (OT – Mississippi St.)
2nd: Randall Cobb (WR – Kentucky)
3rd: Alex Green (RB – Hawaii)
4th: Devon House (CB – New Mexico St.)
5th: D.J. Williams (TE – Arkansas)
6th: Caleb Schlauderaff (OG – Utah)
6th: D.J. Smith (ILB – Appalachian St.)
6th: Ricky Elmore (OLB – Arizona St.)
7th: Ryan Taylor (TE – North Carolina)
7th: Lawrence Guy (DE – Arizona St.)
