A fanbase surprised by the selection of Titus Young hardly figured Mikel Leshoure was the target when it was announced that the Lions had traded back into the second round. Leshoure does fill a need for the Lions . How was the pick viewed nationally?

WalterFootball.com:

Even though the Lions had to trade up to this spot, I love this pick. How did Mikel Leshoure fall this far? Leshoure provides great value at No. 57 and will fill a need as a big back complement for Jahvid Best. (Pick Grade: A)

Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly:

The Lions needed a workhorse to complement Jahvid Best with Kevin Smith not getting the job done. Leshoure possesses first-round physical traits and worked out as well as any running back at the Combine. However, much of his production was blocked for him, came against inferior competition late in the season and his eyes, instincts and competitiveness remain concerns that could affect his development in the pros.

ESPN.com:

What he brings: Leshoure is a bigger back who shows excellent lateral mobility and quick feet for his size. He flashes the ability to hit cutback lanes but is not naturally instinctive and leaves yards on the field at times. On the other hand, he is a workhorse back who did not put the ball on the ground even once in 461 career touches in college.

CBSsports.com:

I like the player, but didn’t they pick Jahvid Best last season? Do you need another this high? Grade: C-

Wes Bunting of the National Football Post:

The Lions needed to add some thump to their running game and Leshoure can be a perfect complement to Jahvid Best inside. He’s a physical downhill runner who picks his way well through the line of scrimmage and knows how to break tackles. Leshoure and Best gives the Lions a very intriguing one/two punch in the run game.

Draft Tek:

LeShoure available at 57 & not the 2nd back taken? Surprising. The Lions traded up for him & now can pair him with a young & talented offense. LeShoure is a great complement to Jahvid Best & could become the majority ball-carrier this year. Great value selection, for sure.
Grade: A-
