Join us each day as we count down towards the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The countdown runs from 50 to zero and the number of days remaining will inspire the post for that day. Think of this as your NFL draft paper chain that loses one link each day!

I’ll admit to getting a little antsy now that the NFL draft is only 11 days away. Part of it has to do with the fact that the draft is the first tangible NFL event since the Super Bowl and part has to do with the excitement ahead of the ‘11 season.

It would be too much to call this a make-or-break draft for Martin Mayhew and Jim Schwartz but its importance should not be understated. The Lions have repeatedly stated the importance they place on the draft and the increased scrutiny should bring confidence that the Millen-drafts of old are a thing of the past and the successful drafts under Mayhew are more than beginners luck. Recent history suggests the Lions could end up with three legitimate starters for the future out of this draft. If that’s the case, the excitement will extend far beyond ‘11.

Players drafted number 11 overall by the Detroit Lions:
Dave Schreiner (1943), Tom Nowatzke (1965), Greg Landry (1968), Luther Bradley (1978)
